How to get to Agerola without a car: from Naples, the airport, Sorrento and Salerno
You can reach Agerola without a car by SITA bus: there’s a direct service from Naples, and buses to Agerola run throughout the day from Castellammare di Stabia (reached by the Circumvesuviana train) and from Amalfi. From Naples airport it’s just one change: the Alibus to the central station and then the SITA bus to Agerola. Agerola has no railway station.
I’m Sebastiano, I run a B&B in Bomerano and many of my guests arrive from abroad without a car. Here are all the options.
From Naples airport (Capodichino)
By public transport:
- from the airport take the Alibus to Napoli Centrale station (piazza Garibaldi);
- from the station walk to the Hotel Ramada, about 100 metres away: the stop for the SITA bus to Agerola is right next to it;
- alternatively, from the station you can take the Circumvesuviana train to Castellammare di Stabia and the SITA bus to Agerola from there (see below).
By private transfer. About an hour’s drive, door to door. If you’re staying at Costa Blu and prefer this option, I can contact the drivers I work with to check availability and price.
From Naples central station
Circumvesuviana + SITA bus:
- from Napoli Garibaldi station take the Circumvesuviana train, Naples-Sorrento line, to Castellammare di Stabia;
- in Castellammare take the SITA bus to Agerola, which climbs up the mountain road.
Direct SITA bus: direct buses to Agerola leave from the stop near the Hotel Ramada, 100 metres from the station. Careful on Sundays: there are often no direct buses that day. If you arrive on a Sunday, it’s best to book a transfer.
From Sorrento
- Circumvesuviana from Sorrento to Castellammare di Stabia, then the SITA bus to Agerola;
- or the SITA bus from Sorrento to Amalfi along the coast and then the SITA bus from Amalfi to Agerola (more scenic, but slow in summer because of traffic);
- or by sea: ferry from Sorrento to Amalfi (spring to autumn) and then the SITA bus to Agerola.
From Salerno
- Ferry (spring to autumn) or SITA bus from Salerno to Amalfi;
- SITA bus from Amalfi to Agerola, which goes through Furore and reaches Bomerano.
From Amalfi, Positano and the coast
SITA buses to Agerola leave Amalfi throughout the day. From Positano you get to Amalfi by ferry or bus and then take the bus to Agerola. Or you can arrive on foot, walking the Path of the Gods in reverse (uphill: I wouldn’t recommend it with suitcases!).
SITA bus tickets
- Buy them before you board: at tobacconists, bars and newsagents that sell them, or with the Unico Campania app. You can’t buy them on the bus.
- For Costa Blu get off at the “Bomerano” stop, a few steps from the B&B.
- With large suitcases it’s best to avoid rush hour: coast buses are often full in summer.
Practical tips
- Arriving in the evening? No problem: the last buses to Agerola leave late, around 11 pm in summer and 10 pm in autumn. And Costa Blu has self check-in after 8 pm.
- Arriving on a Sunday? Check the timetable carefully: there are often no direct buses from Naples on Sundays.
- Want to get around freely in the following days? You can rent a car or a scooter right in Agerola: I give my guests the contact of a trusted agency that gives them priority. In spring and summer a scooter is definitely the best choice: no queues and easy parking, even on the coast.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take from Naples to Agerola by public transport? About 1.5-2 hours, depending on connections.
Is there a train to Agerola? No. The nearest train is the Circumvesuviana at Castellammare di Stabia, then you take the bus.
Is it worth renting a car? You don’t need one to get here. It helps for touring the coast, but in summer traffic and parking on the coast are difficult: many guests prefer buses, ferries and a few days on a scooter.
Arriving at Costa Blu
Costa Blu is in the centre of Bomerano, a few steps from the bus stop and 50 metres from the start of the Path of the Gods. Check-in is from 2 pm to 8 pm, with self check-in after 8 pm; before you arrive I’ll send you all the directions. If you have any questions about the journey, message me on WhatsApp.
